Edgeware’s Ad Enabler recognized in TV Technology’s Best of Show Awards

Following its debut at the 2018 NAB Show, Edgeware’s server-side ad insertion origin tool was awarded a Best of Show award by leading industry magazine, TV Technology.

Ad Enabler was announced just before the show and is one of the first applications that supports live server-side OTT dynamic ad insertion using the MPEG-DASH standard – the native format for Android devices, which represent the majority of the smartphone market.

Speaking about the product’s importance, Edgeware’s CMO Richard Brandon said: “a seamless ad experience plays a crucial role for media companies that need to sell ad space while engaging viewers. If this isn’t achieved and ads are fractured, it disrupts the viewers’ quality of experience and can lead to them stopping use of the service.

“Gaining this recognition from TV Technology on Ad Enabler’s first presentation at a major trade show is great – it shows the markets interest in creating the best experience for OTT services.”

The brand-new server-side product allows for dynamic ad insertion through frame-accurate segmentation of the content stream to make sure the advert plays exactly when it is supposed to. This segmentation prevents any fraction of old ads being shown or lost, both of which cause glitches for the end-viewer.

By inserting commercials server-side, rather than stitching the two together in a browser, ads are less susceptible to ad-blocking software, which can encourage advertisers to buy ad space, knowing it will reach a larger audience, delivering a better return on investment.
