VIRTUAL CHANNEL CREATION?
Virtual Channel Creation is a solution developed by Edgeware to cost efficiently stitch content from various sources into a channel with the purpose of creating new, tailor-made, channels. One key application for this solution is to create regionalized online channels.
Virtual Channel Creation is removing the key issue that previously has been associated with creating regional online channels; the investments needed in production, encoding and storage capacity. These capacity investments have prevented regionalized channels to take off in an online model up until now. This problem is what’s solved in the Virtual Channel Creation offering.
Virtual Channel Creation is designed with the intent of keeping cost per channel to an absolute minimum. Typically, the national channel is the same for every region, and by encoding and storing the national channel only once, and not for each separate regional channel, significant savings can be made.
To reduce encoder and storage capacity even further, lower bitrate variants of the regional content can be stitched in, without noticeably impacting the quality for the viewer. Read more about how a customer could radically reduce their encoder and storage capacity significantly in this Solution Brief.
The Edgeware technology used in Virtual Channel Creation solution is called content, or channel, stitching. A key pre-requisite for this technology is the high requirements put on the segmentation and packaging capabilities which ultimately are essential for the end user’s quality of experience.
